The units of this qualification can contribute towards the knowledge and understanding required for the related NVQ while not requiring or proving evidence of occupational competence.

To provide course delegates with the skills and knowledge necessary to gain the Level 2 qualification for career progression within the Process Technology Industry.


To award the certificate, candidates must successfully complete the assessments for the four core units, two mandatory units and two optional units as listed below.

  • Core Unit – Fundamentals of Process Science
  • Core Unit – Calculations in Process Industries
  • Core Unit – Health and Safety and Environmental Issues in Process Industries
  • Core Unit – Fundamentals of Communications and IT in Process Industries
  • Mandatory Unit – Fundamentals of Process Chemistry
  • Mandatory Unit – Process Plant and Process Plant Services in Process Industries
  • Optional Unit – Processing Fluids in Process Industries
  • Optional Unit – Processing Solids in Process Industries

(Total cost of the course is £1,840 + VAT. In addition, we also offer pay per module at £240  + VAT  which must be paid in advance).

Assessment Method

You will learn in a classroom environment.

You are required to undertake an exam at the end of each unit. It is imperative that you are available to attend on your exam date. In circumstances where you are not available to attend, we can re-arrange the exam but please be aware that additional fees will apply.

If you fail to meet the required criteria, you will have the opportunity to resit the examination. Any resit / resubmission fees are in addition to the course price.

You are required to bring photographic identification to the exam (ie passport / driving licence).

Who is it for

The Level 2 qualification is aimed at candidates who are working in, or would like to work in a process technology role. Ideally, you will have some relevant skills and knowledge, usually from a role where you have been supervised. You may be looking to attend this course to help with career progression in one of the following roles: Chemical Engineering Technician Chemical Plant Process Worker Engineering Maintenance Technician Oil and Gas Industry Technician Polymer Technician Pharmaceutical Technicial


Although City & Guilds do not have set entry requirements for this qualification, it is recommended that the course delegate has a minimum of GCSE Grades C or above in Maths, English and Science. The recommended guided learning hours for this course are, as a minimum, 10 hours of home study per week.
