The course has been designed to give delegates an understanding of different techniques that can be applied to Lifting, Rigging and Slinging and the Health and Safety Regulations that apply.

Aims

At the end of the course the delegates will have an understanding of the theoretical and practical application of slinging.

Objectives

At the end of the course delegates will:

  • Understand LOLER 1998
  • Understand the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (Sections 2, 7 & 8) and other relevant legislation
  • Establish loads, construction and safe use of rope, wire rope and chains, hooks, eyebolts and shackles
  • Hand signals
  • Correct slinging techniques
  • Safe working practices
  • The effects of angles

  • Health and Safety at Work Act (HASAWA) 1974
  • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998
  • Safe use of lifting equipment
  • Establishing/calculation of weights
  • The effects of angles
  • Rigging / slinging responsibilities
  • Working with cranes
  • General rope work

Assessment Method

Classroom based delivery and practical input in the workshop.
