Fabrication/welding

The UK has a long and proud tradition of fabrication & welding within heavy industry and this offers an exciting opportunity for young people. As a fab / weld trainee, you will be taught the practical and theoretical skills associated with fabrication and welding. You will learn about many subjects including basic bench fitting/hand tool skills, workshop safety, measuring and marking out, engineering drawing, different welding techniques including MIG, TIG and MMA, flame cutting, forming and rolling steel plate and sheet metal work.

To complement your practical skills you will complete a recognised academic qualification, which will include basic maths, health and safety, pattern development, drawings and associated welding theory. When assessed to be competent you will actually be able to fabricate plate work from a drawing and assemble components using welding techniques. These are the technical qualifications that meet the required standard to become a fabrication welder in industry.
