Working while learning can be challenging but the rewards gained from completing this scheme are priceless! I had never expected to take this career path but it is the best decision I could have made, with the right attitude, ambition to do well and willingness to learn a bright career awaits you!

Laboratory courses

The UK has a long and proud tradition within the science and technology industry, offering successful applicants an exciting opportunity.

As a Laboratory Technician, you will be taught the practical and theoretical skills associated with laboratory operations; this could be within an analytical function or research and development. The apprenticeship is usually 2 years in duration.

You will complete The Level 3 Certificate in Laboratory Technical Skills knowledge qualification during day-release to TTE. This qualification introduces laboratory-related supervisory systems and procedures together with advanced technical skills in specialist areas of science and technology. It covers knowledge of Laboratory Health, Safety and Environmental Practices; Managing Operations within the Laboratory and Advanced Laboratory Procedures.

A portfolio of evidence will be completed in the workplace – this relates to the occupational skills, knowledge & behaviours of the Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship Standard. You will learn tasks relating to a laboratory environment; for example, working safely in a laboratory; follow quality procedures; produce, analyse and interpret data; apply statistical techniques; communicate scientific information appropriately; use appropriate scientific methods to identify the causes of problems and produce solutions.

When you have completed both of the above formal end assessment will take place and includes: a review of the behaviours, a synoptic assessment test, a vocational competence discussion and a scenario case study.

This apprenticeship is recognised by the Royal Society of Chemistry and successful completion of the requirements will enable you to gain national professional registration as a registered science technician (RSciTech).

In November 2021, TTE’s Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship was accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry. This accreditation in an independent external marker of a high-quality programme, allowing employers and learners alike to study at the highest standard.

The RSC only accredit providers who up-hold best practice and teaching, recognising that the materials and education delivered by TTE Technical are of the best quality.
